The Friends of the New Port Richey Library is an all volunteer, non-profit organization working to support the goals and programs of the New Port Richey Public Library.  Our membership includes individuals from all walks of life who believe in the importance of our city library and what it brings to our growing community.

The library was donated by Dr. Elroy McKendree Avery on December 22, 1919 and then officially opened its doors on April 10, 1920. New Port Richey was not even an official city yet. The library was originally called the Avery Library and Historical Society. Since that time, the New Port Richey Public Library has become:
  • the Florida Library Association's  Florida Library of the Year for 2006,
  • a central community hub where residents can meet, can apply for government assistance, can create small businesses, and generally improve their lives,
  •  a provider of educational programs such as GED classes, foreign language classes, technology tutoring, children's hands-on learning, cooking demonstrations, homebound resources, reading tutors, musical and arts programs, resume writing and much more,
  • a support for those wanting to further their education, apply for jobs, or gain new skills for better employment opportunities, and
  • a valued fiscal resource since past records show the New Port Richey Public Library has returned more than 50% of every dollar invested by our city and taxpayers.

Our Friends group is proud to share the good news about our library and engage in a host of activities to keep our city's public library open, relevant, and vital to our community.
